The Holy Family Program

The Holy Family Program is the parish preparation program for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the children of St. Brendan Parish (2nd graders; 3rd and 4th graders who have not yet celebrated these Sacraments also participate) and their families. Families are contacted in August with Sacrament information for that school year.

Two Parent Meetings are held at the parish. These meetings provide information about the Sacraments. Materials and books are distributed to parents for use in the home. Three weeks of Parent Discussion Group meetings are also attended; parents meet in small groups to have conversations (guided by discussion questions) about the two Sacraments their children will celebrate. The Parent Meetings and Parent Discussion Groups help parents as they prepare their children for the Sacraments.

All parents and children attend two retreats at the parish: the Reconciliation Retreat is held in November and the Eucharist Retreat is held in March. First Reconciliation is celebrated in November/December and First Eucharist is celebrated throughout the Easter season.

A $35 materials/book fee is collected at the first Parent Meeting, and a $5 banner supply donation is collected at the Eucharist Retreat. Families must be registered members of St. Brendan Parish to participate in the Holy Family Program; all children who will celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist at St. Brendan Parish during a given school year must participate in the Holy Family Program.
